All men are so afraid of this that they won’t want to read this article. But you as a woman must read it: you will help your partner a lot.
The anniversary gift that she sent for the United States arrived that afternoon. So her mood couldn’t be better. I was eager to surprise her. The task of preparing a light dinner, which would allow her to meet the goal of reaching 37 years without those extra kilos, had her absorbed the moment the door to the street opened and her husband entered the house.
“Love of my life, the person I most wanted to see has arrived!”, Were the words with which he received him, at the time he went to meet him and helped him take off his briefcase, while discreetly pushing him in the direction of the room. “What do you want?” He said, feeling pushed. “To the room,” she told him, and they both walked the few meters that separate the entrance to the apartment from the master bedroom. Upon entering, he immediately noticed the two pajamas that covered the bed. They were her gift to him: the dog had long since destroyed all his pajamas and he had been sleeping in his Sunday shorts for weeks. Excited, she expected a reaction of joy, accompanied by kisses. Instead, she noticed how his eyes filled with tears: That morning he had visited the Social Security clinic, where they told him they detected a small inflammation in his prostate.
Now he is afraid and so is she. Additional medical tests are scheduled for the next month, but they no longer know how to lead the talk. He doesn’t want to scare her, but he has no one else to tell of the fear that hugs him. She doesn’t know what to say: if she knows anything, it’s how much it bothers him to feel treated with pity.
After 40: the risk of prostate cancer
Like him, most men after the age of 40 are at risk for prostate problems. In fact, statistics tell us that, regardless of age, a man’s chances of getting prostate cancer are one in six men. The good news, however, is that if caught early, prostate cancer is treatable. The bad news is that, in addition to the fact that it is not possible to prevent it, once advanced it has no curative treatment.
Hence the importance of going to the doctor periodically to carry out studies that allow us to be aware of the state of our health, and to be able to receive care on time, if necessary. However, few men undergo preventive checkups, for fear of the uncomfortable and embarrassing checkup. It is important to know that in the case of prostate cancer, there are no symptoms when the disease begins. Although there are only two ways to discover the evil, one of them does not involve the dreaded digital rectal examination, and it is a laboratory test called Prostate Specific Antigen.
Other diseases related to the prostate
The reasons why the prostate becomes inflamed are not always related to cancer. Although it is true that it is one of the most frequent symptoms of this disease, it does not mean that if they feel discomfort it is necessarily from cancer. When it comes to the prostate, prostatitis (which is nothing more than an infection) and an enlarged prostate (which occurs mainly due to age, and causes dripping when urinating or a greater need to go to the bathroom, especially at night ) are the most common.
This does not mean that we have to trust ourselves: it is always advisable to prevent so as not to have to regret. And if in the end it is a false alarm, good! And if not, remember that in situations like this, it is not worth just worrying: taking care is always more effective and better. As Arthur Schopenhauer said: “Health is not everything, but without it, everything else is nothing.”
