All my life I have been overweight. When I was a teenager I didn’t have a lot of extra pounds but it was enough to cause problems for me. But, despite my suffering, I must admit that I was a bit rebellious: when my mother tried to help me, she just wouldn’t let her, it was hard for me to recognize my problem. In addition, my grandmother prepared delicious things for me all the time and that also worked against me.
So now that I am a mother, I know how difficult it can be to have a child with extra pounds and to help him if you do not have the right tools.
In overweight people, especially in children and adolescents, there is a lot of rebellion, denial and sadness when not being able to perform certain activities or not being like others. On the other hand, the food they sell at school makes you fat and is unhealthy, temptation appears everywhere. Working together is required for obesity treatment to be successful. 1. Do not prohibit anything
When something is forbidden to us, that generates the opposite effect on us: we want it even more. Excessive control is useless. Talk a lot about the benefits of losing weight. Look at examples of people who have managed to shed the extra pounds. Explain that he is worth a lot as a person, that not everything depends on being thin but that if he loses weight he will feel much better and he will be able to have a fuller life. Try to keep his self-esteem at a good level.
5. Cook for him
Look for delicious and non-fattening recipes. Is this possible? Of course! You will be surprised to find on the internet a large number of delicious dishes that are dietary. Thus, the regimen to lose weight will not be so difficult. What’s more, if you get your whole family used to eating healthy, it will be easier for your child to accept an adequate diet to lose weight.
6. Get active together
Find an enjoyable physical activity to do. Dance and sports are excellent options. This way your child will stay healthy, will have less anxiety and will be able to lose weight more quickly.
